CECU has been proudly serving employees of WorkSafeBC and their families for over seventy years. CECU’s merger with Beem Credit Union came into effect on June 1, 2025, which means we are now operating as a branch of Beem. 

Here are answers to some of the common questions you may have about what this means for our members. Alternatively, feel free to reach out to us at the branch and we would be happy to answer your questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens now that CECU has merged with Beem Credit Union? 

For now, your everyday banking continues as it normally would, with your same fantastic team and branch experience. Your products, accounts and other financial services will also remain as they are today, unless you choose to make changes.  

As we shared during the merger process, we will need to close the CECU branch within WorkSafeBC’s Richmond location. When that time comes, members and staff will transition to a Beem branch. We anticipate this happening in late summer to fall. 

What is going to happen to the CECU branch? 

The branch transition is anticipated for late summer. One of the benefits of this merger is access to all of Beem’s 66 locations across the province – including the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky Corridor, Interior, Okanagan Valley, Cariboo and the North. 

How and when will the branch transition happen? 

When the time comes to transition, our team and members will move to a Beem branch. We anticipate this happening in late summer. We will be working with every member one-to-one to make the move as smooth as possible for you. 

What are the benefits of our merger with Beem Credit Union? 

There are many benefits that come with our merger. Just a few of them include: 

  • Access to the Beem network of 66 branches throughout the province. 
  • Access to a much greater array of products and services including spending accounts, wealth management services and many other services not previously available. 
  • Enhanced digital services and digital security for members. 
  • A financially stronger credit union with more resources to invest in its future, allowing for greater and faster expansion of services for our membership. 
  • More ability to invest in the community. 
  • More career opportunities, mobility and training for our team.   

Will CECU staff lose their jobs when members transition to another Beem branch? 

No, everyone will have a position within Beem. There will be no job losses.

Will there be changes to my accounts, interest rates, or service fees? 

For now, your everyday banking continues as it normally would, with your same fantastic team and branch experience. Your products, accounts and other financial services will also remain as they are today, unless you choose to make changes.  

Will CECU members be able to bank at any Beem branch?  

Over time, members will be able to visit any Beem branch for support with select transactions. And, once you have transitioned to a Beem branch, members will have access to Beem’s full range of services at any Beem branch across British Columbia.
